Why the Wildflower Meadow?
-
Our Health.
A Wildflower Meadow is good for you.
Simply looking at an Ox Eye Daisy for 6 seconds reduces blood pressure and the stress hormone, cortisol. 6 Seconds!
Breathing in the air in Wildflower Meadows and Forests contains essential oils called phytoncides, boosting the production of cells in our body associated with immune system health and cancer prevention.
-
Species Protection.
A Wildflower Meadow is good for them.
Over 700 species of plants put down their roots in Wild Flower meadows. The plants in a typical meadow can support nearly 1,400 species of invertebrates - that’s an army of bugs, beetles, flies, spiders, grasshoppers, crickets, butterflies and moths. And these will in turn feed the higher vertebrates – from field mice, bats and hedgehogs through to seed-eating birds and ultimately birds of prey.
-
Carbon Sequestration.
A Wildflower Meadow is good for us.
One acre of a healthy Wildfllower Meadow sequesters as much as 5 times the CO2 as one acre of Pasture Grass.
One acre of healthy Wildflower Meadow sequesters as much as 3 times the CO2 as one acre of Forest.
One acre of degraded grassland will actually emit nearly the same amount of carbon as captured by a Wildflower Meadow.
